5 Steps to Lose the Weight for Good

Are you ready to lose the weight for good?  Are you fed up with being fat and sick?

Here's 5 simple steps to permanent weight loss:

#1 - Commit to a Lifestyle Change

The bottom line:

To become permanently lean, you must commit to a permanent lifestyle change.  That's what it takes.

The good news:

It's easier than you think.  All you need is a new mindset.

Your #1 priority:

No more kidding around.  It's time to take control and make your health and well-being your #1 priority.

Stop feeling like crap and lose the weight for good!

#2 - What to Eat

To lose weight for good, eat the fresh whole foods our bodies are able to handle.  Here's a breakdown:

  • vegetables and fruit
  • lean meats
  • poultry and eggs
  • fish and seafood
  • nuts and seeds

These foods are The Right Stuff.   Eat The Right Stuff in reasonable amounts and lose the weight for good!

#3 - What to Avoid

To lose weight permanently,  you've got to cut way back on processed food, including The White Stuff as follows:

  • sugar
  • starch
  • salt
  • fat

The less processed food you eat, the better.  But a healthy diet needs to be sustainable to work as a permanent lifestyle change.  So aim for these guidelines:

  • eat The Right Stuff 95% of the time
  • keep processed food to a minimum
  • allow occasional planned cheating (no more than 5% of your diet)

#4 - The Truth About Exercise

The million dollar question is:  I hate exercise - how much exercise do I have to do?

The straight goods:  The biggest factor in losing the weight for good is the food you eat.

That being said, your body does need to move every day to function well.  That's how it works.  So while you do not have to do a lot of exercise to lose weight permanently, you do have to do some physical activity every day.

Here's some ideas:

  • park the car and walk everywhere
  • walk the kids to school
  • walk to work
  • walk to do errands
  • take a walk at noon
  • walk the dog every day
  • bicycle
  • rake the leaves
  • garden
  • vacuum
  • wash the windows
  • take up a sport
  • play catch with your kids
  • move to a walkable neighborhood

When choosing your exercise activities, make sure you:

  • choose activities you enjoy
  • choose some activities that you can work into your daily routine (i.e., getting off the bus a couple of stops before your destination and walking the rest of the way)

That way, moving your body on a regular basis will become a habit.  Aim to move your body at least 30 minutes every day.

#5 - Bring On The Fun

Instead of using food as your drug of choice to deal with stress, boredom, and life's ups and downs, it's time to learn new coping skills to reward yourself.

Here's some tips:

  • anticipate times when you might be tempted to eat processed food and The White Stuff, and plan in advance how you will handle the situation
  • before you go out, eat a healthy meal -- that way you won't be starving and you'll easily be able to pick and choose what to eat
  • plan relaxation time throughout your day - unplug, go offline, take a walk, stretch, do some deep breathing, take a nap
  • make short-term and long-term plans for fun

Every week, take a few minutes to plan fun activities.  Be sure to make plans for the upcoming week (meet a friend for coffee, take in a movie, go on a bike ride, etc.).  In addition, have long-term plans in place for activities such as travel, family celebrations, personal interests, etc.  That way you'll always have something to look forward to..

Enjoy the natural high you get when you are permanently lean and fit.

Bring on the fun!
